Extreme Drought in Parts of the Lakes Region

Map courtesy U.S. Drought Monitor

Levels of Drought continue to rise and expand in the Lakes Region.

This week's map from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows Extreme Drought, the next to highest level on the monitor scale, in parts of Arkansas in central and southern Marion County as well as all of Searcy County. According to the monitor's guidelines, areas in Extreme Drought have very low water tables and mature trees are becoming stressed.

The majority of the Lakes Region, including both the Branson and Harrison areas, remain at a Severe Drought Level with only Madison County in Arkansas maintaining a Moderate Level.

The forecast calls for warmer conditions over the next week with little if any rain.
