Boone County Warns Residents About Return of Bond Scams

Boone County officials are warning residents to be on alert following reports that bond-related scams are occurring again.

According to the warning posted on the department's Facebook page, scammers may contact individuals by phone and claim that money is needed to pay a bond or obtain a monitoring system. Residents are reminded that Boone County will never call and ask someone to pay a bond over the phone using a credit or debit card, Cash App, PayPal, or another electronic payment method.

Bond payments can only be made with cash in the Boone County Jail lobby or through a bondsman.

Officials are urging residents not to provide financial or personal information over the phone to anyone claiming to be collecting money for a bond or offering assistance with obtaining a monitoring system.

Anyone who receives one of these calls should avoid providing information or sending money.

Residents are also encouraged to share the warning with family members and friends to help prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
