Why is Branson's Inclusive Playground at the Rec Plex Closing?

A temporary closing of the playground at the Rec Plex begins this week.

The Branson Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce a major improvement project for the Inclusive Playground at The RecPlex next to Pavilion D. Beginning Monday, the playground will temporarily close through mid-September as crews replace the existing wood‑mulch ground cover with a pour‑in‑place rubber surface.  

This upgrade represents a significant investment in the long‑term safety, accessibility, and enjoyment of the playground. As part of the 2026 Community Asset Replacement Plan, crews are installing new pour-in-place rubber safety surfacing designed to provide a seamless, durable, and impact-absorbing play surface. This enhancement will provide accessibility to children for all abilities, ensuring the playground remains a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for families to enjoy for years to come.

“Playgrounds are vital for children's health and recreation,” said Cindy Shook, Director of Parks & Recreation. “We’re proud to continue to invest in the spaces that bring our community together and support active, healthy lifestyles.”

For visitors to the RecPlex during this time, a second playground next to Pavilion B will remain open and available. This playground had a resurface in 2025 including the pour-in-place material that is being added to the Inclusive Playground. Additional newly upgraded playgrounds at Eiserman Park, John Nygard Memorial Park, and Parnell Park from prior Community Asset Replacement Plan projects are also available for play.
