The Stone County Sheriff's office with assistance from the Humane Society respond to a report of animal abuse at a property in Galena.
According to a post on the Sheriff's Department's Facebook page, a deputy responded to the report on a property off of Camp Clark Hill Road on Friday. The deputy found over 50 dogs in pens or tied to trees in the very cold conditions, many with little or no food and water available. Other animals were found to be deceased.
Stone County Officers contacted the Missouri State Humane Society Animal Abuse Task Force in St Louis and requested assistance from their rescue division. That request led to a full response by the task force which included Animal Rescue Technicians and Veterinarians. The surviving animals were taken to St. Louis for further care.
The Stone County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with the owners of the property and the Stone County Prosecutor is also looking into this case according to the release.
