The Stone County Health Department is awarded a grant that will raise awareness of the dangers of Marijuana Abuse.
The grant awarded by the Missouri Department of Behavior Health is in the amount of $100,000 is designed to help agencies with Drug Awareness Program. Monica Mueller, Community Health Specialist with the Stone County Health Department, says during a recent At Your Service Podcast that the Health Department through their coalition decided to focus on education on Marijuana with the county now having two dispensaries for Medical Marijuana.
The program the Health Department is developing will educate intermediate and middle school aged kids about what Marijuana is and the dangers of developing an addiction. The grant program begins Wednesday with the Department focusing on hiring someone to administer the grant then beginning the programs later this year. The grant is for a year with a possible one year renewal option.
