The Stone County Ambulance District announces the construction of a new facility.
The complete release is below:
The Stone County Ambulance District has officially announced the commencement of construction for a new ambulance station in Crane, Missouri. This new facility, located on Highway 413 between the Dollar General Store and Westrip Funeral Home, marks a significant step in enhancing emergency medical services for the community.
The new facility is a lease-purchase venture with Crane EMS, LLC. The ambulance district, which was officially formed on August 22, 2024, began collecting sales taxes in February 2025. Due to having less than a year of revenue and no credit history, the board of directors elected to contract with a developer for lease-purchase, build-to-suit ambulance stations. This venture allows the district to expedite the process of building essential stations for the community.
The Crane station will house the Mercy EMS provider, which is contracted with the district for ambulance response and transport. The facility will feature two ambulance bays and include living quarters for the crew.
"This station broke ground at the beginning of October and is scheduled to finish sometime late summer next year," said Jeff Hawkins, Interim Director of the ambulance district. "We are excited to get this project off the ground and completed so early into the district's start-up."
For the time being, the EMS crews are being housed at a temporary location on the north side of town that the district is leasing.
