Special Session of the Arkansas Legislature This Week

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is calling the State Legislature back to Little Rock for a Special Session this week.

Hutchinson announced on Friday that the session will deal with a tax relief plan as well as setting aside $50 million in a reserve fund for a school safety grant program.

Hutchinson said in a press release issued last week that with inflation continuing to impact Arkansans, the state can use some of their surplus from last fiscal year to help as well as provide a safer school environment for students.

According to the Department of Finance and Administration, the state collected a record general revenue surplus of $1.628 billion in fiscal year 2022 that ended June 30.

Not included in the Special Session is a discussion of increase in teachers pay, which Hutchinson and some lawmakers had hinted might be included.
