The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has identified remains found west of Ava earlier this month.
Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase tells Ozarks First that the remains are Curtis Goodwin of Sparta. The last time anyone saw or spoke with Goodwin was in 2017, but Degase said he’d only been reported missing within the last year.
The body was found by a mushroom hunter near State Highway T west of Ava on April 2, according to Degase, and was identified Wednesday using medical records.
Degase said the remains have been sent to a forensic pathologist to determine Goodwin’s exact cause of death. At this time, authorities have not found evidence of foul play but is not ruling it out.
