People associated with a Lakes Region School District are mourning the loss of a high school student.

Story Update 7:30 12/5:

According to information released from Gainesville Schools Wednesday morning, one of their students, identified in a later release and by other media sources as 16-year-old Andrea Winrod, died in a traffic crash on Tuesday.

According to the report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:00 pm when the vehicle driven by the victim failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection on Highway 5 north of Gainesville and was hit by a pick-up truck. The collision sent both vehicles off the road. The driver of the other vehicle, not identified in the MSHP Report, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The district said they would have extra counselors on hand to visit with students over the next few days. According to the school's Facebook page, tonight's Girls Basketball game with Cabool has been postponed as has a Choir Caroling Event at the Lions Club. The Boys Basketball team is playing their scheduled game this evening against Hollister in at the Forsyth Tournament.

The school also announced on their Facebook page that a Celebration of Life Dinner for Andrea Winrod will be at the school's FEMA Facility Saturday at 1:30.
