Agencies around the region continue to warn of a Text Scam warning recipients of potential consequences for not paying traffic violations.
The Branson Police Department shared a warning Facebook post from the Missouri Department of Revenue saying that they state agency has recently received calls from many residents warning about unpaid tolls, traffic violations, or associated fines.
The Facebook message goes on to say that the department never sends threatening messages and that they are working with investigators to shut down the scam sites.
Earlier this month, the Boone County Sheriff's office joined other agencies in Arkansas alerting the public to these types of texts.
The public is encouraged to ignore them and can also report them to local law enforcement agencies.
