What was originally termed a homicide investigation in Yellville has taken a different turn according to Arkansas State Police Investigators.
The ASP issued an updated statement saying “During the course of a death investigation in Yellville, additional evidence and information has been revealed that may change the course of the on-going investigation. Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police will now await a formal ruling by the state medical examiner who will determine the manner of death.”
The ASP is investigating the death of 86-year-old Christopher Smith of Yellville who was found dead in his residence by a family member Tuesday around noon. The ASP says Smith was the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office requested the Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division to lead the investigation.
