Missouri’s county recorders will no longer be able to issue marriage licenses to anyone under 18 after passage of a law signed by Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe.
HB 737 and SB 43 raise the minimum age for marriage in Missouri to 18 years old.
The Recorders Association of Missouri said in a statement all Recorders of Deeds in the state will be updating their office policies to make sure all counties comply with the new law’s Aug. 28 effective date.
All applicants will still be required to provide proof of age at their county recorder’s office with a certified copy of their birth certificate, passport or other government-issued identification.
