Missouri bill would replace high school activities body with governor-appointed board

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Missouri lawmaker has filed legislation that would replace the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) with a new board appointed by the governor.

Senate Bill 863, pre-filed earlier this month by Republican State Senator Jason Bean, would shift power from MSHSAA to a board of directors who would oversee and facilitate “any statewide association that facilitates interscholastic activities for secondary school students.”

Recently, MSHSAA has found itself entangled in controversies, which isn’t that unusual for an organization that oversees extracurricular activities for more than 300,000 students from over 700 schools across all corners of the state.
