An organization that started to coordinate shoreline cleanups on area lakes continues with those and other programs targeting water quality.
H2Ozarks was founded in 2001 with the goat of improving water quality on Table Rock Lake. Current organization President/CEO Carin Love and Program Director Jerry Harmon stopped by KRZK's "Ozarks Now" program to talk about some of the current projects.
Harmon said the group is continuing to accept volunteers for the 26th Annual Shoreline Cleanup coming up September 25-27. The cleanup now covers all three area lakes, Bull Shoals and Table Rock as well as Lake Taneycomo. Volunteer teams as well as sponsors for the event are being accepted and said that teams can set their location and time frame through the group. A similar event will take place on Beaver Lake in Arkansas on September 26 and is coordinated with the Beaver Water District.
Love also talked about the Septic Remediation Program that started on Table Rock Lake but has expanded into to Bull Shoals and Taneycomo as well lakes in other parts of the state including Lakes of the Ozarks and Truman Lake. The program also includes the Buffalo River Watershed in Arkansas. Love says the work has been made possible with the financial assistance of both the Arkansas and Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
