The Mayor of the Barry County town of Seligman is facing charges of Perjury dating back to his time as a City Alderman.
According to court documents, Michael Avers signed paperwork when he was a candidate that he was not a convicted felon though at the time he was on probation for drug and endangerment charges. Avers made a comment about the situation during a January Board of Alderman Meeting which led Police Chief Matt Phillips to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol to investigate.
Avers is facing two Felony Charges for Perjury for the two documents he signed claiming to be qualified for public office when he was not according to Missouri Law. Avers is scheduled for an appearance in Barry County Circuit Court on July 30.
