Mandatory Masks For Harrison Schools Starting Monday

Masks return on Monday, Jan. 10th for at least nine school days.

After indicating that he believed mandatory masking would soon return to the Harrison school district during an interview on KHOZ’s "Around the Table" program on Thursday, Dr. Stewart Pratt issued a statement on social media Thursday night saying that masks would become mandatory starting Monday, January 10th for all staff and students.

On Thursday alone the district had and additional six positive students as well as six positive staff and 20 others quarantined. In total that makes 9 staff and 30 students COVID positive with 141 in quarantine.

The release says the requirement will be in effect for 9 school days or until January 21st with the district reviewing the data and communicating whether or not it will be extended on January 20th.

In the fall the Harrison School Board gave Pratt the authority to install a mask mandate, based on ACHI data, without their formal consent as along as he communicates with them. That means that Pratt does not need to wait until the January board meeting to mandate face coverings.

"Our focus is safety and student learning." Pratt said, "If your student is required to be at home, please be in contact with you student's teachers to ensure the learning continues while students are away from the classroom. We appreciate your help and support in this very challenging time.
