Juneteenth Federal Holiday Closes Government Offices, Financial Institutions

The United States' newest Federal Holiday is celebrated today.

Juneteenth became a Federal Holiday after being signed into law by then President Joe Biden in 2021, though many states including Missouri had some form of recognition for the day several years prior. The date coincides with the declaration in Texas on June 19, 1865 of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Most federal and state offices will be closed with many cities also following suite and closing offices. In addition, financial institutions will be closed and there will be no regular mail delivery.
