WASHINGTON – Missouri U.S. Senators Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt voted in favor of the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a reconciliation package backed by President Donald Trump that includes significant tax breaks and spending reductions.
The 100-member Senate body voted 50-50 on the legislation, requiring Vice President J.D. Vance to ultimately cast the tiebreaking vote. Vance voted in favor, and the bill now advances to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Passing by the narrowest of margins, Hawley and Schmitt – both Republicans – backed the measure. Hawley’s vote came despite previous concerns about proposed cuts to Medicaid.
