According to the release, local clinics, medical offices and personnel, and the hospital need to be aware of potential subjects posing as Medicare representatives who are requesting to take pictures of exam rooms stating it is required for Medicare compliance inspections. The subjects may show or provide a false document of a letter indicating the need for inspection from their phone. They may also request information such as the Doctor’s National Provider Identifier and will provide very little to no information or documentation regarding themselves.
According to the Harrison Police release, the Medicare fraud department has stated they will not ever send someone to do a compliance inspection.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to Law Enforcement Officials.
