The Gainesville School District will soon add a new athletic complex.
The District's School Board last week approved a plan to build a new baseball/softball complex and student activity complex that will benefit students with interests. The facilities will be built on land across the street from the high school and junior high campuses on land that was the former airport.
Superintendent Justin Gilmore tells KTLO the school’s baseball and softball teams have been playing for years off-campus at the fields north of the square owned by the Lion’s Club which are used for other teams as well.
Gilmore says the school district was able to trade the school owned city park to the city of Gainesville in exchange for land the city owned where the airport was formerly located.
