A former Harrison High School band director facing 50 counts of sexual assault has reportedly been found dead in Stone County, Arkansas.
According to KYTV/KSPR, the Harrison Police Department and the Stone County Sheriff’s Office say the body of 56-year-old Randell Mealer was located Saturday morning.
Mealer was booked Thursday into the Boone County Jail and Detention Center on 50 counts of first-degree sexual assault and released nearly three hours later on a bond of $75,000. Authorities say he went missing shortly after being released from custody.
According to the criminal information document from 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney David Ethredge, Mealer had allegedly engaged in sexual activity with one of his former students on at least 50 occasions between June 2017 and May 2018, as he was employed in the Harrison School District. He spent this past school year as an assistant principal in Colorado Springs.
Investigators have not confirmed the cause and manner of Mealer’s death, but they are currently not searching for suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
