Former Branson Alderman Cody Fenton expressed gratitude for the people he worked with and the accomplishments during his time as a representative of Branson residents.
Fenton explained that his resignation came about as a result of purchasing a house outside of the city limits. The opportunity to buy it wasn't expected. The ward two alderman's last night of service was at this past Tuesday's board meeting.
He thanked his wife and children, former staff and board members as well as the current ones. Fenton gave special thanks to the board members he served with.
He acknowledged that they haven't always agreed on topics, that they care about the city and wished them all future success. Soon after, he directed remarks to Milton.
"Thank you for your time and dedication to the city and for pushing all of us to make this city a better place," Fenton said. Again, while acknowledging differences of opinion, he told Milton he appreciates his willingness to hear opinions.
Fenton also expressed thanks to City Administrator Cathy Stepp. "It is well known that our relationship got off to a rocky star, but I'm now proud to call you my friend, and I admire you and the work you're doing here at city hall."
Earlier, he recalled that he ran for the position to "give back to the community, " which gave him and his family a lot. Fenton ran for another term to ensure the work he did continue.
Before Fenton spoke, Branson Mayor Larry Milton made a statement. Milton described the now-former alderman as "dedicated" and "outstanding."
"Cody has been actively serving on council for three years representing ward two," Milton said. Fenton also served on the finance committee and the transportation development district board for three years.
"We are very grateful for his steady leadership, his valuable contributions, his professional demeanor and his friendship," Milton said. The mayor went on to state that Fenton brought knowledge and contributed at a level that's "priceless."
The mayor added that Fenton was "instrumental" in what the Branson government has achieved in three years.
