The cancellation of the Boone County Fair Livestock Show is the first casualty of a dispute that has developed between the Boone County and Northwest Arkansas District Fair Boards.
Statements have been issued by both sides in regards to the issues that led to the cancelation.
The Northwest District Fair Board, in a post on their Facebook Page that was shared on the "Around the Table" Facebook Page, stated that they had conversations with members of the Boone County Fair Board last year, and this past February, communicated to current BCFB President Buddy Hinson the need for Liability Insurance in place prior to any more events being held at the District Fairgrounds in Harrison. At the April 13 of the NWADF Board Meeting, the release stated that Hinson was told that that their organization was not in good standing with the Arkansas Secretary of State's Office and that they would need to correct that in order to initiate a contract. They also discussed a per day usage of $1000 which according to the NWADF Board, was in alignment with past money spent by the Boone County Fair to make improvements to the District Fairgrounds in lieu of rent.
Several members of the Boone County Fair Board appeared before the Boone County Quorum Court on April 14. According to a recap of their statements from the Harrison Dally Times and comments on their Facebook Page, they said these and other items were put on them at the last minute and there was no way to get things in place in time for the April 17 show
According to information from both organizations, the Boone County Fair is still currently on the schedule for this September.
More details on the ongoing issues can be found on the organizations' Facebook Pages plus from the complete story in the Harrison Daily Times.
