The extreme cold temperatures Sunday morning proved to be a challenge for area firefighters battling a blaze.
According to a post from the Valley Springs Fire Department, their firefighters were sent to aid the Western Grove fire department for a structure fire around 3:15 am. A two-story building was on fire and firefighters were quickly able to bring it under control.
Due to the temperature at the time being around 13 degrees, a request was made to the Arkansas Department of Transportation to salt the area of Highway 65 so areas around the waterline would not freeze. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance on the scene to direct traffic.
