An area County Judge announces his retirement from office.
Carroll County Judge Sam Barr announces via his Facebook Page that he will retire from office on January 31 of next year. Barr has been the County Judge for the past 13 years, though he did spend some time away from office earlier this year due to some heart surgery. Judge Barr said in his post he has appreciated all of the support over his tenure in office and has tried to help as much as the law allows.
Barr's announcement comes on the heels of the passing of another county officeholder as Tax Collector Kay Phillips-Brown passed away earlier this month at the age of 73. The Carroll County Offices closed Wednesday afternoon so officials could attend Phillips-Brown's funeral.
