An annual event that attracts visitors and hopeful hunters from across the region takes place again this weekend in Newton County.
The Buffalo River Elk Festival is Friday and Saturday in downtown Jasper which includes the annual onsite drawing for a permit to hunt Elk in Arkansas during the Fall Hunting Season. Registration for the drawing will take place both days of the festival with the drawing taking place at 5:00 on Saturday.
Live music will be featured during both days of the festival along with vendors throughout the downtown area. Other special activities Saturday include the American Legion Pancake Breakfast at 7:00 am, Kids Fishing Derby at 9:00 am at Bradley Park, and the Arkansas State Elk Calling Contest at 1:15.
