Area Health Department Continues Breast Feeding Awareness Campaign

While the first week of August is recognized as World Breastfeeding Week, the Taney County Health Department continues to bring awareness throughout the year.

Taney County Health Department (TCHD) invites the community to continue to support local breastfeeding families. Designated as a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic, TCHD serves the community by providing exemplary breastfeeding counseling. A dedicated Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is on staff to promote, encourage, and support mothers during their breastfeeding experiences.

“Moms and babies both greatly benefit from breastfeeding” explains TCHD Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, Wendy Vaughan. “It helps keep mother and child healthy and forms an extraordinary bond between them. Breastfeeding is best for moms and babies."

Thanks to the devoted TCHD WIC team, 85.1% of women who participate in WIC in Taney County initiate breastfeeding with their babies. Offering consistent encouragement makes all the difference in the lives of moms and babies in Taney County.

TCHD WIC is hosting a free Breastfeeding Celebration open to all prenatal and breastfeeding women in Taney County. A light brunch and resources will be shared.
