Officials with the Michigan based Pace Industries they can no longer maintain efficient production levels at their Harrison facility leading to plans to close it down in April.
In the letter Pace officials sent to the State of Arkansas as required by law, they cite they have been unable to negotiate working conditions that can keep the facility operating efficiently to continue operating it. The letter goes on to say that their intent now is to cease operations at the facility no earlier than April 26 and says they expect the layoff of their 178 employees to be permanent.
Officials state they would like to sell the facility to keep it operating but are alerting the employee's and officials of the potential closure.
Pace, a producer of aluminum, zinc, and magnesium die casting, also recently announced plans to close a facility in Tennessee.
In a joint statement issued Thursday by the City of Harrison and Harrison Chamber of Commerce, they said they would monitor the situation and be on standby to provide support needed for the displaced employees.
