After a full court press by city and community leaders to educate and inform Harrison voters about two sales taxes up for renewal, only one of them goes through.
According to unofficial results from the Boone County Clerk's Office, the one half of one percent Sales Tax to fund Infrastructure improvements did pass by a narrow margin, 1,007 to 961. Due to a missing page, the results of the other Sales Tax was not listed on the results from the clerk's office however the Harrison Daily Times is reporting that the one quarter of one percent tax renewal for fire and police was narrowly defeated with 1,803 against and 884 in favor. The vote means the infrastructure tax will be renewed and become permanent while the other tax will expire over the next few months.
In Boone County, just under 26% of the voters casted a ballot during this election.
A recap oif other Boone County Results include:
Tyler Gentry and Bobby Woods were the top two vote getters in the Boone County Judge Race. Neither candidate got 50% of the vote which which means this race will be part of a Runoff Election on March 31.
Tim Roberson earned just over 70% of the vote in winning the Sheriff's Race over Mark Foresee.
In another race that the winner did not get a 50% of the vote was the Republican Race for the District 5 Arkansas House Seat in which Mike Bishop and Jeff Pratt were separated by less than 100 votes as the top vote getters.
The winner of that race will take over for Ron McNair, who elected not to run for reelection. McNair decided to run for office closer to home, going for the Boone County Justice of the Peace District 10 against Tony Jones. That race turned out to be the closest of the night as according to the unofficial total, McNair won by a single vote.
