"A helpful reminder from Western Taney County Fire District Chief Chris Berndt:
Sunday is the beginning of Daylight savings time. It's time to replace the batteries in your smoke alarm. Your alarm checks for smoke every few seconds, day in and day out, so make sure that the batteries are in good working order when you need it.
Smoke alarms alert you when there is smoke in your house, this is of particular importance when you are sleeping. The human body is not trained to wake up to smoke, we are trained to wake up to sounds. The smoke alarm converts the smoke into a sound. Smoke alarms should be installed in sleeping areas and outside of sleeping areas. Do not install them in the kitchen, garage, or bathrooms. If you need assistance checking your battery or replacing your smoke alarm, contact the Western Taney County Fire District at 417-334-3440."
