A Nixa man has been taken into custody on multiple felony charges, including attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer during an incident in February.
According to court documents, Gary Dean Hord, 63, is charged with first-degree harassment, resisting arrest, and attempting to disarm a peace officer.
Officers responded to a residence in Nixa on February 16 after a report that Hord had allegedly threatened to kill a caller. During the investigation, officers reported hearing Hord state over the phone that he would “come kill him and his family” if law enforcement was contacted.
When officers arrived, Hord exited the residence while shouting at them and refusing commands. Officers deployed a Taser, causing him to fall. While being taken into custody, Hord allegedly grabbed an officer’s patrol rifle and refused to release it until officers struck him to gain compliance.
A witness told police that Hord had said he intended to get into a shootout with officers before exiting the home. Officers also noted a strong odor of intoxicants on Hord.
Hord is currently in the Christian County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
