Richard “Doug” Douglas Brannan, 74, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri

Richard “Doug” Douglas Brannan, 74, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on October 18, 2023, after his more than 17-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease, which he acquired from Agent Orange exposure during Vietnam.

 The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 28, 2023, at Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, Branson, MO. Following the service will be finger foods served in the Parish Hall. Fr. Ross Stuckey, celebrant and preacher will be officiating, assisted by Fr. Robert Seney. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Branson, MO.

 Doug was born in Fowler, Kansas on June 27, 1949. He graduated from Meade High School and continued to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Pittsburg State University.

 Doug also served in the Army Security Agency as a Communication Security Specialist (COMSEC) during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. His rank was Spec 5. He was mainly based in Korea, but also served in Vietnam.

 Doug was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the 15th Unnamed Campaign, the SS Badge/Rifle Bar, the Ex Badge/HG Bar, and the Good Conduct Medal 1st Award.

 Doug was married to Patty Sanderson of Longmont, CO in 1977. He married Judy Budge of McPherson, KS in 1987. He divorced both of them and later married Jeanine Snell-Britton of Hutchinson, KS on April 24, 1993; they were married for 30 years.

 Doug worked on his brother Bill’s farm in Reno County, KS who raised beef cattle and grew wheat. He also worked as a surveyor for Reno County for 26 years. He was an avid football fan who also enjoyed golf, writing, tinkering on projects in his garage, and studying maps. He was involved in the Brotherhood of St. Andrew at Grace Episcopal Church in Hutchinson, KS, Christ Episcopal Church in Kingman, KS, and Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Branson, MO. Later in life, he also got involved in the Parkinson’s Group of the Ozarks from Springfield, MO.

 Doug is survived by his wife, Jeanine Brannan of Erie, KS, his step-children Josh (Ashley) Urban of Lawrence, KS, Mallory Bohnenblust of Clearwater, KS, Matthew “Matt” (Crystal) Britton of Wellington, CO, his children Emily Brannan of Erie, KS and Ian Brannan of Valley Falls, KS, and six grandchildren—Christian, Kaden, Tyler, Kole, Bohdi, and Haddi.

 Doug is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Franklin Brannan and Fern Adele Layman-Brannan, by his brothers, Michael Steven Brannan and William “Bill” Robert Brannan, his sister-in-laws Joyce Brannan and Peggy Brannan.

 The family of Richard Douglas Brannan wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon for their exquisite care for Doug over the last four years.
