Philip Alan "Phil" Cragg, age 71, of Branson, Missouri

Philip Alan "Phil" Cragg, age 71, of Branson, Missouri, formerly of Olathe, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2023. Born in Paola, Kansas, on October 12, 1951, to the late Elford and Mary (Clements) Cragg, Phil grew up in Osawatomie, Kansas and graduated high school there.

Phil began his career working for the Union Pacific Railroad. On November 6, 1974, he married Joy Matney which was the beginning of 48 years together building a life, a family and countless memories.

 

Phil devoted 30 years of his life working for General Motors at the Fairfax Plant in Kansas City, retiring in 2009. In 2016, he and Joy moved from Olathe, KS to Branson, embracing a more relaxed lifestyle.

Known for his love of the guitar and fishing, Phil was a source of constant delight and inspiration. He fostered his love for nature through his gardening activities and showcased his creativity as a talented artist with a gift for drawing and painting. Phil was not only a fervid fan of KU athletics and the Kansas City Chiefs but also an avid animal lover.


Above all, Phil was a dedicated family man who made significant sacrifices for those he loved. In his earlier days, he enthusiastically coached his sons Jason and Ryan, in various sports. His family was his greatest achievement and time with them cherished.

 Phil is survived by his loving wife, Joy Cragg of Branson; his sons, Jason and Ryan both of Branson; his dear mother-in-law, Betty Matney of Osawatomie; his beloved Boxer, Scooter; and two sisters, Carol Weaver of Topeka, Kansas and Mary Reiter of Overland Park, Kansas.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Merle Matney; his daughter-in-law, Mamta Patel-Cragg; brothers, Eugene Cragg, John Cragg and an infant brother.

 Phil will be deeply missed and his legacy will forever live on through his family and countless others he inspired.

 Cremation arrangements are under the care of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson.
