June Maria (Fischer) Podoll

June Maria (Fischer) Podoll departed this world peacefully on February 28, 2024.

June Maria (Fischer) Podoll departed this world peacefully on February 28, 2024, at her home in Forsyth, Missouri, surrounded by loved ones following a battle with kidney cancer. She was born on September 18, 1944, in Gackle, North Dakota, as the eldest child to Elroy and Ruth (Dockter) Fischer.

She spent her childhood helping on the family farm and enjoyed working with the draft horses. After high school, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she attended college and earned a degree in business and accounting. She married Ervin Duane Podoll Sr. on March 16,1963, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and had their first son in August. After being caretakers of an apartment complex for a few years, they bought their first house in 1965 in Blaine, Minnesota, where they stayed until 1974. She worked at General Motors Acceptance Corporation as an insurance analyst from 1965-1970 and then at an insurance company from 1970-1974. During this time, they welcomed a daughter in April of 1970, and their last child, a son, in June of 1973. In 1974, the family moved to Anoka, Minnesota, where she was a stay-at-home mother for a few years before moving to Cambridge, Minnesota, to a farmhouse where she owned and bred American Paint and Quarter horses. In addition to tending to the horses and her children, she also worked at Leader’s Department Store as an accountant. In 1982, looking for a fresh start, the family relocated to Graff, Missouri, but only stayed until 1984, when they then settled in Republic, Missouri. She worked as the City Clerk of Republic from late 1984 through early 1988, at which time she obtained her CDL and began driving a semi over the road with her husband until March 1990, when they welcomed their first grandchild. In 1998, they moved to Miller, Missouri, and she worked part time at Don’s Crossroads Convenience Store in 2004, when a close friend that they had known since their early days in Minnesota convinced them to join her in Northwest Arkansas. They moved to Huntsville, Arkansas, with their oldest two grandchildren and stayed there until 2021, when they moved to their current home in Forsyth, Missouri.

She loved music of all different genres with some of her absolute favorites including Elvis Presley, Raul Malo, Willie Nelson, Glenn Miller, Bob Seger, Neil Diamond, and Duke Ellington. She spent many of her retirement years collecting records and digitizing them. She collected cardinals and ivy décor, enjoyed birdwatching, crafting, flowers, plants, and reading Stephen King books. She enjoyed preparing elaborate meals for her family on various occasions throughout the years, but especially enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. If you ever left her house hungry, it was your own fault as there was always enough to feed an army and she would even tell you that she didn’t know how to cook “small!”

She is survived by her three younger siblings; husband, Ervin Podoll Sr. of Forsyth, Missouri; son, E.J. Podoll of Republic, Missouri; daughter, Juliette Podoll of Springfield, Missouri; son, Erik (Amanda) Podoll of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; and six grandchildren: Corey (Shea) Podoll of Huntsville, Arkansas, Taylor (Taylor B.) Cole of Springfield, Missouri; Nathan Sherwood of Willard, Missouri, Eli Podoll of Springfield, Missouri, Caleb Cottrell of Springfield, Missouri, Addalyna Alsobrooks of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; and one great-grandchild: Kenzlee June Podoll of Huntsville, Arkansas.

June thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her loved ones on the lake cruising around in the boat, especially on the 4 of July watching the fireworks and expressed her desire to be cremated and have her ashes spread in a private service. In lieu of flowers, anyone who would like to may make a donation to the American Cancer Society in her honor and/or hang a birdfeeder at your residence and remember her when you see a cardinal come to visit. The family extends their gratitude to Compassus Hospice Care team and Cremations of the Ozarks for their services.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks. To leave an online condolence or share a memory, please visit www.cremationsoftheozarks.com.
