Bernard Harry "BJ" Johnson, age 81, Forsyth, Missouri

Bernard Harry "BJ" Johnson, of Forsyth, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 after a short illness.


BJ was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on September 16, 1941. Raised in California and Massachusetts, BJ graduated high school in Massachusetts before continuing his education at Lakewood Community College in Minnesota. His early years were marked by his love for baseball. After completing his education, BJ spent his professional life serving others. He served as a guard at the Minnesota state prison and was a substance abuse counselor in Dakota County, Minnesota.


In 1994, BJ married his best friend, Joan, and they moved to Missouri. BJ was a gifted musician, brightening up local venues with his band and delighting audiences at various music shows in the Branson area. He continued being active in serving and protecting his community as a policeman with the Merriam Woods police force. His passion extended to woodworking and making mechanical models out of wood—a true testament to his creativity and handiwork. 


BJ leaves behind Joan Johnson of Branson, his son, Bernie Johnson Jr. and spouse Angela Johnson, of Lamoine, Maine, granddaughter, Paige Johnson of Lamoine; granddaughter Ashley Elliott and spouse James Elliott, great-granddaughter Lily Elliott and great grandson Finn Elliott all of Hermon, Maine. He is also survived by his step-sister, Marjorie Crossman of York, Maine.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Dorothy Johnson.

 

A celebration of BJ’s life will be Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. in the Del Showers Community Center, 4385 State Hwy 176, Merriam Woods, MO 65740.

 Cremation arrangements are under the care of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson.
