Harrison Outlasts Valley View to Claim 4A State Baseball Championship

The Harrison Goblins survive a three and a half hour marathon to add another State Championship Trophy to the school's trophy case.

The Baseball Goblins give the last blow in what turned out to be a heavyweight fight in the 10-9 win over Valley View to claim the 4A Baseball title just over a year after Harrison claimed a state title in Girls Basketball.

In Friday's title game at Benton, the Goblins, who were the home team, fell behind early as the Blazers posted five runs in the second inning but by the end of the fourth, the Goblins had gained the lead with a seven run rally over three innings including a five run fourth.

Harrison scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth which the Goblins cashed in during the seventh inning as Valley View scored four times to tie the game.

The Goblins were finally able to secure the win in the 10th after Sloan Barrett led off with a triple then after Valley View issued two intentional walks to load the bases, got the game winner when Cy Madden hit a sacrifice fly that scored Barrett from third.

The Goblins' Logan Plumlee, who's three innings of scoreless relief pitching earned him the win, was named the Most Valuable Player of the 4A State Baseball Tournament.

The Goblins lost only two games during the postseason run, a game to Farmington in the 4A-1 District Tournament and to Huntsville in the 4A North Regional Finals but avenged that loss to Huntsville in the 4A Semi-finals after wins over Star City and Pulaski Academy to finish the title run.

Harrison finishes the season 22-12 overall.
