H.S. Football: Branson, Mountain Home End Long Losing Streaks

Two schools ended long losing streaks against their Friday opponents in this week's High School Football action.

The Branson Pirates had not defeated the Carthage Tigers since 2008, when the two teams had met at Pirates Stadium that night both entering the game undefeated. This year, both teams lost opening week and were looking for a rebound win. The Pirates took advantage of three Tiger turnovers to prevail in Carthage 28-14. Two of those turnovers led to Pirate scores while the Pirates also struck pay dirt at the end of the first half when Luke McCormick connected with Teegan Asbury for a 39 yard score to get the Pirates up by 14 at intermission. Daniel Giles, Gage Depee, and Javen Finkbone scored the other touchdowns for Branson.

Meanwhile in Mountain Home, the Bombers broke through with a win against the Harrison Goblins in their annual rivalry game for the first time since 2012. The Bombers started early, scoring 17 points in the first quarter before the Goblins answered with a pair of second quarter scores. In a similar situation to what happened in the Branson game, Mountain Home scored a late first half touchdown to build the lead back to 16. In the second half, the Goblins put pressure on the Bombers, cutting the lead to six late in the fourth quarter before Mountain Home got a late touchdown pass of 62 yards to secure the 44-31 win.

In other action, Forsyth gets a first ever win over Buffalo rolling to a 42-20 victory, Reeds Spring loses for the first time this season as they drop the home opener to Nevada 46-19, and Hollister drops their second straight game as East Newton spoils their home opener with a 20-18 win.
